Dreaming of a sleek, durable garage floor can quickly turn into a nightmare when cheap hardware store epoxy coatings fail to deliver on their promises. Thin, one-coat applications often result in flaking and disappointment. This disappointment is compounded when the contractors charge you for a professionally installed epoxy and polyaspartic garage floor. This is a story of a cheaply applied epoxy floor that failed into a stunning masterpiece using RaceDeck plastic garage tiles.

My client recently invested in a garage upgrade, but to his dismay, the epoxy floor began peeling just a few weeks after completion. This unfortunate situation is not uncommon, as many DIY enthusiasts and unsuspecting clients have been enticed by the apparent cost-effectiveness of these budget-friendly epoxy coatings, only to later realize their significant shortcomings. The thin consistency of these coatings, combined with insufficient surface preparation, frequently results in premature flaking, leaving the floor with a worn-out appearance in a short span.

To exacerbate the issue, the flakes, resembling paint, were scattered onto his driveway pavers and ended up in the lawn and flowerbeds surrounding the garage, creating quite a mess. This unintended consequence added to the frustration of dealing with a failed epoxy floor.

Our RaceDeck Solution:

RaceDeck offers a revolutionary solution to garage flooring problems. By using high-quality, interlocking plastic tiles, RaceDeck provides a durable, visually appealing alternative to traditional epoxy coatings. The tiles are resistant to chemicals, easy to clean, and boast a sleek finish that transforms any garage into a showroom. The RaceDeck Designer tool, available at https://racedeck.com/designer/ allows you to customize your floor design by choosing from a variety of sizes and colors. I created various designs and color combintations for my client. We went back and forward on designs and settled on a silver and graphite checkerboard pattern featuring breathable tiles below his new black BMW Z4 for breathability and moisture evaporation.

The following steps were employed in the transformation:

Measure the Garage:

I began by accurately measuring the dimensions of the garage. This step ensures the correct quantity of RaceDeck tiles ordered for complete coverage.

Sweep Up the Flakes and other Garage Debris:

Prior to installing RaceDeck tiles, I thoroughly swept up any remaining epoxy flakes or debris from the failed flooring. This creates a clean surface for the new tiles.

Decide on Tile Position:

Strategic placement of the first tile is important for aesthetics. Starting from a corner and working outward allows the clips on the tiles to be connected correctly.

Create Sections Under Cupboards:

Sections of RaceDeck tiles were assembled that fit neatly under cupboards and storage spaces. This not only enhances the aesthetics but also ensures full coverage.

Cut Tiles to Fit Edges:

Employ a guillotine or jigsaw to cut plastic interlocking tiles to fit along the edges of the garage. Leave a 1-inch border to accommodate any irregularities in wall alignment and allow for expansion and contraction due to temperature variations. sometimes youu can get luck when the space is slightly larger than than whole foot dimensions.

Finish with Sloped Edging:

Sloped edging was installed around the perimeter of the garage. This not only provides a polished finish but also prevents tripping hazards and facilitates easy entry and exit.

Clean Up Plastic Bits and Dust:

After completing the installation, I diligently cleaned up any plastic remnants and dust. A thorough cleanup ensures a pristine final appearance the way it should have been from the beginning.

Transforming a failed epoxy floor into a garage masterpiece is possible with RaceDeck plastic garage tiles. By combining creativity with the RaceDeck Designer tool and the durability of their interlocking tiles, you can achieve a resilient, attractive garage floor that surpasses the limitations of cheap epoxy coatings.
