Gutted Garage to Great
This is a tale of “Transforming a Garage into a Stunning Space”
The state of the garage when I did the first measurement.
Introduction:
We all have that neglected space in our homes, often overlooked and underutilized—the garage. My client was determined to harmonize every aspect of his house makeover, making sure the garage received its well-deserved transformation. As part of the holistic renovation project, the garage underwent a complete overhaul, turning it from a neglected space into a functional and stylish extension of the home.
Phase 1: Needs Assessment
With a blank canvas before them, the homeowners collaborated with uus to articulate their vision for the garage. Beyond the traditional storage function, the goal was to craft an extension of the home—a versatile space seamlessly connected to the kitchen and laundry, while also serving as a storage haven for sports equipment like mountain bikes and snow gear.
The general contractor took charge of installing dry wall, updating electrical wiring, and addressing the plumbing for the sink, ensuring a clean foundation to work from.
Phase 2: Precise Measurements
Ensuring every inch was maximized, precise measurements were taken to optimize the garage's layout and functionality. This was rechecked after the dry wall was installed and then again after the new garage door was installed on new rails.
Phase 3: Designing Colors and Materials
Custom storage solutions became the cornerstone of this renovation. Wall-mounted cabinets, drawers, and butcher clock work surfaces were meticulously designed and strategically placed to maintain organization and eliminate clutter. We designed loads of slat wall space for hanging sports gear and laundry items.
Phase 4: Epoxy Coating with Polyaspartic Top Coat
To enhance durability and aesthetics, the garage floor received a high-quality epoxy coating with a polyaspartic top coat. This not only protected the floor but also added a clean finished look to the space.
Phase 5: Installation
Flat-packed cabinets were delivered to the site and meticulously constructed. Butcher block workbenches were custom measured and cut on-site, providing a perfect fit and their durability was enhanced with a polyurethane varnish that brought out the natural grain.
Phase 6: Final Touches
The transformation was brought to completion with the installation of light switches and lighting. Plumbing connections were established for the sink, fridge, and laundry appliances, ensuring the garage was not only visually appealing but also fully functional.
